We have current and upcoming openings for New York State Certified Special Education Teachers and Autism Instructors.
Our program teaches children, adolescents and young adults to acquire skills and maximize independence within self-contained special education and general education classrooms both in private and public school settings.
Staff trained at Ascent are provided comprehensive training in the application of learning theory to the education and treatment of individuals with an autism spectrum disorder. All of our instructional staff, regardless of previous experience, are prepared to teach age appropriate skills that range from communication, self-help and social skill to academic and vocational skills. All instructors are expected to implement the full range of behavioral and educational programs individually designed for each student.
Level I Instructor or Special Education Teacher - This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little or no previous experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders and is ideal for those just beginning a career in the field of human services. Level I instructors serve as a student advocate for one student. The position does not require certification; however, there is a pay differential for certified teachers.
Level II Instructor or Special Education Teacher - This position is typically for individuals who have some formal experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder. These instructors teach students in the school and teach parents in their homes. A level II instructor serves as a student advocate for one student and as a parent educator for one or two parents. Maintenance of regular communication with parents is required. Certification is not required; however, there is a pay differential for certified teachers.
Instructor Qualification Requirements:
- Applicants must be seeking full-time employment.
- Applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants must have positive academic and employment references.
- Applicants must be bright, energetic individuals and possess a strong desire to work with children or young adults.
- Applicants must have experience in or possess a strong interest in being trained in the principles of applied behavior analysis.
